Interesting post. I suppose in a huge country like yours nationwide distribution takes a very long time. I have used non-Canon branded batteries for years and never had a problem. The ones I use hold charges for as long as the Canon stamped ones.

The high ISO capabilities of the Mk II doubtless has you contemplating even more painting with light projects.

Hey Ben - My understanding is that all LP-E6 batteries in North America are back-ordered, and that there are no 3rd party versions yet available. The good news is these things seem to have a much greater capacity/life than the old BP-511As.
