I've had someone ask why this script is needed since Russell Brown has one called Place-O-Matic. FYI: that script is designed to open two interpretations of one raw file (like the example that shows two images combined in my post), but it will not allow you to simply open a raw file with a single interpretation of it, which is what I need to do 95% of the time.

Ben,

Thanks for supplying this script. I have played some with Russell Brown's script and was thinking about attempting to modify it to deal with just one image. Therefore, I was pleased to find that the work had already been done.

If you are interested, I had a couple of other ideas regarding how to make this type of script more useful but I hadn't determined yet whether the Photoshop scripting language would support my thoughts.

First, I tend to use batch and automation processes to handle much of my conversion processes. I build up a set of corrections as layers using machine time and then come back and make my final creative adjustments. The thing that I find missing in this script and Russell Brown's script is the ability to run without operator intervention.

Would I would love to be able to do is to point the script at a directory of images that I have made my initial Raw adjustments on and have the script automatically create a PSD file that contains the Raw file as a smart image AND that the resulting PSD file contain the name of the original image.

This would allow me to run an automation that would create a set of PSD files that contained the Raw files as Smart Objects and the resulting PSD files would all be named in such a way that the original file name was evident.

Do you think that this is possible? If you are interested in exploring this suggestion any further, feel free to contact me via email.

Thanks for listening.

Thanks for the scrept it work fine but can you think of anyway to retain the file name I started with. I was wanted to bach 100 photo. This dose save alot of time in any case

I'd love to run the script, but it gives me a reference error Photoshop9 is undefined. Furthermore, the "Place in Photoshop" is also missing. Any clues?

Ben Willmore

The script is no longer needed if you're working with Photoshop CS3... you can open a raw file as a smart object by simply shift-clicking the Open button in Camera Raw.

"Well, just open the image as a Smart Object using one of the settings, then choose Layer>Smart Objects>New Smart Object Via Copy and you'll end up with a second layer that is independent of the first. That means that you can double-click on it's thumbnail image and choose different camera raw setting to use for that layer without affecting the original Smart Object layer"

When I double click the thumbnail the smart object does not open in Camera Raw. Have you ever encountered this error? is there a trick maybe, that I am not aware of?
